Ogiya Eiji

Japan

My name is Ogiya. I am 46 years old and live in Japan with my wife and two cats. I own a center that specializes in repairing household appliances.

When I found out that Russia had started a war against Ukraine, and saw footage of people crying and running away from their homes and hometowns, I couldn't hold back my tears. At the same time, I was enraged.

I have no relatives in Ukraine. I didn't know much about your country before the full-scale war started. But when I see how your people are experiencing unjustified aggression, I can't stand aside. I don't know how to fight, but I can donate money and fight Russia that way. As soon as I learned about the launch of UNITED24, I immediately became a donor and started transferring a small amount every month.

UNITED24 gave me hope amidst the tragedy. People are getting help, bridges are being rebuilt, new ambulances are going to the front – all this confirms that Ukraine is on the way to recovery.

In addition to contributing to UNITED24, I also post messages of support on Facebook and go to the Ukrainian Embassy in Japan to make charitable contributions there. Recently, my Ukrainian friends, with whom we communicate online, said that due to the increase in prices, it is difficult for them to buy food for their children. In addition, they can not find a good job, because they were evacuated from their hometowns. So I send them a little financial help.

My family and friends are also involved in support, and it gives us all a sense of meaning, unity, and shared struggle. I consider Japanese and Ukrainians friends. I think it's only natural that we help each other when we're in trouble.

I will continue to support Ukraine until I see your victory and the return of your territories, as well as the restoration and development of a free and peaceful Ukraine.

Along with my monthly contributions, I send small letters in Ukrainian and would like to share one of them:

“Sunflowers are blooming in Ukraine. In Japan, cherries bloom. Ukrainian flag on a Japanese sakura. I found the Ukrainian flag in Japan, so I will send it to you. Peace and victory to Ukraine.”
